One of
the earliest Bernard Allison albums, recorded in 1992 and reissued in
late 2001 (unfortunately complete with its original tacky cover art),
is a middling effort from a talented bluesman who hadn't found his niche.
Recorded live in the studio with his dad Luther's band in Paris, where
they were living at the time; w/Luther Allison - Vocals |

This
CD features the exciting blues guitarist/singer Luther Allison on selections
taken from four appearances at the Montreux Jazz Festival. Although the
title says 1974-94, the earliest numbers are actually from 1976, and these
are the most memorable cuts on the CD. 13 Tracks - 80min |

LIVE
IN PARIS |
20.01.01 |
"Live
in Paris" was recorded in the late '70s(1979), shortly before Luther Allison
decided to leave America for France because the U.S. blues scene was faltering.
And, as Live in Paris attests, Allison was at his best when he played
straight blues with a bit of a wild, electric edge. |

HOME
TO ME |
27.07.99 |
"Home
to Me" is the forth U.S. release from acoustic roots chameleon Eric Bibb.
These 13 tracks, the majority penned by Bibbs, encompass his deep musical
debt to folk (maintaining a healthy dose of his early Woody Guthrie influence),
soul (a respectful cover of Sam Cooke's "Bring It on Home to Me"), and
gospel, underscored by a consistent blues base, not unlike the first Keb

'n Fellow lyricist/vocalist Constanze Friend and composer Thomas Fellow
pay tribute to the spirit of the late Luther Allison with a selection
of mostly original pieces, although there are a couple of rock covers
in Bob Dylan's "Forever Young" and Steve Miller's "Fly like an Eagle."
The ensemble's instrumentation is mostly acoustic highlighted by the
organ and drum work of brothers Mathias and Alexander Betzel, respectively
and the music often roams the middle ground between jazz and blues. |
